Day 3: Girls hockey vs HC Rotterdam

We played against a skilful and well organised team and at times this led to us panicking and not taking time on the ball. That said, we battled hard and the game was level for the first ten minutes. Anna made several good saves but eventually they broke through and put the ball across the line. This gave them confidence and we started to play more and more in the middle of the pitch. This led to messy periods of play and we gave the ball away and were punished by them scoring three more times before the end of the half.

The second half saw Cara come into the fray and after a positive team talk mentioning the word 'width' more than once, the girls were much more physical and this paid off quickly with Savannah scoring and raising Brambletye spirits. Then the Umpire said play whilst HCR were substituting their team and we took advantage and passed the ball swiftly forward to Cara who finished off the move with a simple goal. They scored quickly after a 16 restart and the score stayed as it was. The girls won the second half and really worked hard.

A huge thank you to the HCR team and the club as a whole for making us feel so welcome. If we were not in a rush to get to the stadium to watch Feyernoord, we would have loved to have stayed and enjoyed their hospitality for longer. What a great club and what nice people. Thank you.
